According to court records, 21-year-old Avery Owen Cadwell was convicted of second-degree murder with intent in connection with the June 15, 2025 killing of 28-year-old Codi Brown.

Police found an adult male lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Despite life-saving efforts by officers and Saint Paul Fire medics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

One man was found deceased inside the first floor lobby and another was found dead in a second floor hallway. Both died from shotgun wounds, the department said, and all three are adults who lived in the building.
