Man Dies After Early Morning Shooting in Wilkin County

A man was shot and killed in rural northwestern Minnesota during the first hour of the new year.

Authorities say a suspect was arrested shortly after deputies arrived at the scene.

The Wilkin County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched at 12:49 a.m. on New Year’s Day to a report of a shooting along the 1700 block of Minnesota Highway 75 in the city of Wolverton.

When deputies arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators quickly identified a suspect, who was taken into custody without incident. Authorities say the suspect and the victim were known to each other and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Officials have not released the victim’s identity or the circumstances leading up to the shooting. The sheriff’s office says additional details are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
