What a valid notice must contain

To be effective under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3), your notice must include:

A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed.
Identification of the material claimed to be infringing and its location on this site (a URL).
Your name, address, telephone number, and email address.
A statement that you have a good-faith belief that use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.

Please note that under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), anyone who knowingly materially misrepresents that material is infringing may be liable for damages. Court records, charging documents, and other public government records are not subject to private copyright claims, and we evaluate every notice on that basis.

Counter-notification

If material you posted was removed in response to a notice and you believe the removal was a mistake or misidentification, you may send a counter-notification to the same agent. It must include your signature, identification of the removed material and its prior location, a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed in error, your name, address, and telephone number, and consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your judicial district (or, if outside the United States, the District of Minnesota).

Repeat infringers

MN CRIME LLC will, in appropriate circumstances, terminate the accounts or submission privileges of users who are repeat infringers.

Not a copyright issue?

Requests to remove or update coverage about a criminal case are not copyright matters. Those are handled under our Redaction Policy.
