By accessing or using the MN CRIME website (https://www.mncrime.com), you agree to comply with these Terms of Service. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, you should not use the site.

1. About Us

MN CRIME operates as a multimedia public safety information network providing reporting on Minnesota criminal court cases and public safety matters. We emphasize transparency and accountability in public safety reporting.

2. Agreement to Terms

By accessing the website, creating an account, or purchasing products and services, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. These terms apply to all visitors, users, subscribers, and members.

3. Accounts and Subscriptions

MN CRIME offers free accounts and paid subscription tiers. When you create an account, you must provide accurate and complete information. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.

Paid subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis (monthly or annually) through Stripe and automatically renew at the end of each billing period until you cancel. You may cancel at any time from your billing portal, and your access will continue through the end of the current billing period. If you are not satisfied with your subscription, we offer a full refund within 7 days of your first payment on a new subscription — email contact@mncrime.com to request one. After that 7-day window, fees already charged for the current billing period are non-refundable.

4. Email Communications

The MN CRIME Weekly Digest is a free weekly email summarizing the most newsworthy Minnesota criminal filings from the prior 7 days. It is delivered on Sunday evenings to subscribers who have opted in through the website.

Email content is automatically generated by machine-learning models from public court records. While we review for accuracy, content may contain errors. Names of charged defendants are presumed innocent until conviction.

We reserve the right to modify the frequency, content or format of email products, or to discontinue them entirely, without prior notice to subscribers.

You may not scrape, resell, redistribute as a bulk feed or re-publish verbatim the content of MN CRIME emails without written permission. Forwarding individual emails to friends or colleagues is permitted.

Every marketing email includes a one-click unsubscribe option that honors the RFC 8058 List-Unsubscribe header, plus a plain-text unsubscribe link. Opt-out requests are processed within 10 business days in accordance with the CAN-SPAM Act.

5. Data Licensing and API Access

MN CRIME offers licensed data feed access through tiered API plans. API keys are non-transferable and subject to rate limits as defined by your tier. Misuse, including sharing API keys, exceeding rate limits, or redistributing bulk data without authorization, may result in immediate termination of access.

Data obtained through the API may not be used to build a competing product or service without express written permission from MN CRIME LLC.

6. Payment Methods

We accept payments through Stripe and other supported payment platforms. All transactions are processed securely following industry best practices as outlined in our Privacy Policy.

7. Website Use and Restrictions

Users agree not to:

• Use content for commercial purposes without explicit written permission
• Modify, distribute, or create derivative works without authorization
• Share links to protected or member-only content with non-subscribers
• Scrape, crawl, or systematically download content without API authorization
• Attempt to circumvent subscription gates or access controls
• Violate local, state, or federal laws

8. User Submissions

The public-facing website does not currently offer user comments or discussion features. When users voluntarily submit content — through the Tipline, redaction requests, or any future user-facing submission feature — they are solely responsible for ensuring their submissions comply with applicable laws and do not infringe copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights.

MN CRIME reserves the right to moderate, edit, refuse, or remove any user-submitted content at its sole discretion, and to introduce, modify, or discontinue user-submission features without prior notice.

9. Intellectual Property

All content on the MN CRIME website, including but not limited to text, images, logos, audio, video, graphics, AI-generated summaries, and data compilations, is the property of MN CRIME LLC and is protected by copyright and intellectual property laws. Commercial use requires express written permission.

10. Copyright Infringement

If you believe content on our site infringes your intellectual property rights, contact contact@mncrime.com with:

• A description of the copyrighted work
• The location of the infringing material
• Your contact information (name, address, email, phone)
• A statement of good faith belief regarding unauthorized use

We will respond in compliance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and other applicable laws.

11. Advertising

MN CRIME displays sponsored content and advertisements. Advertisements are clearly labeled as “Sponsored” and are served through our self-hosted advertising platform. We do not sell personal user data to advertisers. Ad targeting is based on page context (county, charge type) rather than individual user profiles.

12. Governing Law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Minnesota, United States. Any disputes arising from these terms fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of Minnesota state and federal courts.

13. Changes to Terms

MN CRIME reserves the right to modify or update these Terms of Service at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with the updated effective date. Continued use of the site after modifications constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

14. Limitation of Liability

MN CRIME will not be held liable for any damages arising from your use of our website, inability to access the site, or reliance on any information provided on the site. All information is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

Court case data, AI-generated summaries, and newsworthiness scores are provided for informational purposes only and should not be relied upon as legal advice or as a substitute for official court records.

15. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless MN CRIME LLC and its officers, directors, employees, contractors, and agents from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your use of the website, services, or any data obtained from MN CRIME; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your violation of any third-party right, including privacy, publicity, or intellectual property rights; or (d) any content you submit, post, or otherwise transmit through the services.

MN CRIME reserves the right, at its own expense, to assume the exclusive defense and control of any matter otherwise subject to indemnification by you, in which event you will cooperate with MN CRIME in asserting any available defenses. This indemnification obligation survives termination of these Terms and your use of the services.
