A Moorhead man accused in a fatal drive-by shooting earlier this year has been indicted by a Clay County grand jury on two counts of first-degree murder and four counts of attempted murder, court records show.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County, 57-year-old Vance Luther Boelter dressed as a police officer and used a vehicle equipped with police-style lights to carry out the attacks early Saturday, June 14.
The manhunt for the suspect accused of targeting and shooting Minnesota lawmakers came to an end Saturday evening with the arrest of 57-year-old Vance Boelter in Sibley County.
Officers arrived to find a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. They provided immediate medical aid before the man was transported to a hospital, where he later died. A second man at the scene was also shot at but was not injured.
Boelter was being sought in connection with the overnight shootings at the homes of State Representative Melissa Hortman and State Senator John Hoffman.
The suspect fled the scene in a dark-colored SUV with a push-bumper, a spotlight on the drivers’ side, and red-and-blue flashing lights mounted on both the dash and rear window.
Officers were dispatched just after midnight to the 2900 block of Colfax Avenue North, where they found both the man and child dead from gunshot wounds.
When officers arrived, they found a 15-year-old male victim suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were first called just after 2 a.m. on June 3 for a vehicle that had gone off Highway 22 near the Terrace View Golf Course, south of Mapleton.
Minneapolis officers responded to 911 calls initially reporting gunfire, which were quickly updated to indicate multiple people had been shot. When officers arrived, they found a chaotic scene with more than 100 people still in the area.
Around 2:30 p.m. on May 28, officers were notified that a man had arrived at Regions Hospital with a gunshot wound to his torso. Despite efforts by hospital staff, the man was pronounced dead.
