Officers immediately began providing medical aid until paramedics arrived and transported Johnson to Hennepin Healthcare, where he later died.

Initial information indicates the shooting followed a verbal argument that escalated. The suspect fled before officers arrived and no arrests have been made.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said detectives are working to determine the events that led up to the shooting.

“Gun violence has claimed another life, devastated another family and further traumatized a community,” O’Hara said in a written statement, urging anyone with information to come forward.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Johnson’s death a homicide, and the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the torso.

Anyone with information is asked to contact MPD or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
