A man fled on foot after officers approached him during a physical fight near a downtown bar, leading to the recovery of a loaded firearm that had been modified into a machine gun.

Deante Andre Kennebrew, 34, of Minneapolis, faces multiple charges including possession of a firearm and ammunition after a felony conviction, possession of a machine gun, carrying a pistol without a permit and fleeing a peace officer by means other than a motor vehicle.

The incident occurred on August 30, 2026, on the 300 block of N. 1st Avenue in Minneapolis.

Officers responded to a report of a fight and were informed that the involved group had moved to a nearby parking lot. As they arrived, they observed Kennebrew leaning down near the passenger side tire of a silver SUV. When officers commanded him to stop, he fled, holding an unknown object at his waistband. As he ran, officers heard a metal object hit the ground.

Kennebrew slipped and fell, allowing officers to apprehend him. They later searched the area where they heard the sound and recovered a loaded firearm with a round in the chamber, equipped with a switch that converts it into a machine gun.

The complaint notes that Kennebrew has prior convictions for aggravated robbery in the first-degree and carrying a firearm in public without a permit. He also has a pending felony charge for threats of violence. A court date has not yet been set.
