Man Fatally Shot Outside Midway Saloon in Saint Paul

A man died after being shot in the chest early Thursday outside a Saint Paul bar, with a suspect arrested nearby within minutes.

Saint Paul officers responded around 12:10 a.m. to the 1500 block of University Avenue West, outside the Midway Saloon, after Metro Transit officers nearby heard gunfire and located the scene.

Police arrived to find an adult male victim with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Regions Hospital by paramedics but died a short time later.

The suspect, described as an adult male, was arrested near the scene and booked into the Ramsey County Jail. Officials have not said whether any weapons were recovered. The man’s identity has not been released and formal charges have not yet been announced.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to confirm the cause of death and publicly identify the victim. As of publication, authorities have not released any details about what led up to the shooting.

It marks the seventh homicide of the year in Saint Paul, a department spokesperson said.
