A man died after he was found shot in a stairwell of an apartment building in Northeast Minneapolis early Sunday, Oct. 11, Minneapolis police said.

Officers responded at about 5:40 a.m. to a report of a shooting in the 200 block of Broadway Street Northeast, according to the Minneapolis Police Department.

They found the man lying in a stairwell with at least one apparent life-threatening gunshot wound, police said. Officers gave him medical care until an ambulance took him to Hennepin Healthcare, where he died, police said.

Preliminary information indicates that an argument may have escalated to gunfire, police said.

No arrests have been made, according to police. The department did not identify the man in its news release.

Minneapolis police forensic scientists processed the scene and collected evidence, and homicide investigators are working to determine the sequence of events that led to the shooting, police said.
