Two people were arrested Friday afternoon after a law enforcement incident involving reports of gunfire in Appleton. The incident drew a large police response and is now under investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office says the incident began Thursday just before 6 p.m., when the Emergency Communications center received a call from a homeowner in the 18800 block of Jasper Street NW.
Officers were dispatched around 2:30 p.m. to the 400 block of Snelling Avenue North and the woman told dispatch she had been able to get out of the unit before police arrived.
Around 2:45 p.m., Northfield police investigators and officers arrived at an apartment in the 1300 block of Heritage Drive to execute the warrant.
Investigators say the incident began around 11 a.m. when Saint Paul police told West Saint Paul officers they planned to arrest the suspect at a home on the 1200 block of Ottawa Avenue.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension also released the names of three Fargo police officers who discharged their firearms during the encounter.
Prosecutors charged 51-year-old Martin Frederick Branshaw on Thursday with one count of second-degree attempted murder with intent and one count of second-degree assault.
