Prosecutors allege the pair coordinated movements, communications and vehicles in the moments leading up to the gunfire.

The convictions stem from a shooting reported around 6:35 p.m. on Dec. 19, 2023, on the 900 block of Newton Avenue North. There, Minneapolis police found 37-year-old Mikiyel Patton unresponsive in a vehicle.

Both counts stem from a Jan. 13 shooting inside an apartment on the 6900 block of 76th Avenue North in Brooklyn Park.

Scott W. Carlson, 67, is charged with second-degree murder without intent in connection with the death of woman. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.

Prosecutors have charged 25-year-old Trashaun Nij Morris with being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm or ammunition and with recklessly discharging a firearm within a municipality.

When officers arrived, they found 18-month-old De’Ali Delgado unresponsive on the living room floor. Officers attempted life-saving measures before the child was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

North St. Paul police were called to the 2000 block of 9th Avenue East at about 7:04 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, on a report of an assault. When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Prosecutors say Jonathon Michael Kaupa attacked people inside and outside an apartment shortly before 5 a.m., killing a 44-year-old man who worked as the building’s maintenance employee and repeatedly stabbing the man’s 15-year-old son.

Responding officers located a man suffering from a gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later, MPD said.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office and the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office announced they are working together to gather material that could support a potential case, including video, photos and other documentation from members of the public.
