A Maplewood teenager fired a handgun at another male after fighting over the gun in the 300 block of Cedar in Saint Paul, according to charges.
Marico Derrion Threatt, 18, of Maplewood, faces three felony charges: second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, threats of violence and intentional discharge of a firearm that endangers safety.
According to the complaint, a Ramsey County deputy in the lobby of a building on the 300 block of Cedar saw two males in an apparent altercation. One of them said, “Stop playing,” and then one began shooting a handgun at the other. Both males fled in separate directions, and the male who was not armed clutched his arm as he ran, as if he may have been hit. The victim did not report the shooting and had not been identified, according to the complaint.

Officers responded to the area and found three spent casings. Surveillance video captured the confrontation and matched the deputy’s account. Officers later found Threatt near Sibley and Kellogg, where he matched the description of the shooter. Police recovered a Springfield 9mm handgun from Threatt.
In a post-Miranda interview, Threatt told officers he had recently bought the gun for $500. He said he was standing outside 350 Cedar smoking a vape when another man tried to take the gun from him. Threatt said they fought over the firearm, and after regaining control, he fired the gun before running away.
The charges allege Threatt assaulted the victim with a dangerous weapon, threatened violence with reckless disregard for risk and intentionally discharged a firearm in a way that endangered others’ safety.
