A woman was wounded and her boyfriend died after a shooting at a Saint Paul apartment complex Saturday afternoon, police say.

Officers were sent to the complex, in the 1000 block of Arkwright Street, at about 3:45 p.m. after a woman called 911 and said her boyfriend was threatening to shoot her, according to a Saint Paul Police Department spokesperson.

While officers were on their way, the call was updated: the woman had been shot, and her boyfriend had shot himself, police said.

Officers found the woman outside the complex with apparent gunshot wounds. They gave her first aid and called for Saint Paul Fire medics, and she was taken to Regions Hospital with wounds police described as not life-threatening.

Inside the apartment, officers found the man with an apparent gunshot wound that preliminary information indicates was self-inflicted, police said. Officers gave him aid and medics took him to Regions Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police did not release the names or ages of either person. Investigators from the department’s non-fatal shooting unit went to the scene, and police described the investigation as active and ongoing.
