A Minneapolis man robbed three people at gunpoint in two separate attacks using a black Chevy Impala, then tried to use a stolen credit card at a store later that night, according to new charges.
Anthony Cory Johnson, 19, faces a charge of aiding and abetting aggravated robbery in the first-degree.
According to the complaint, at about 8 p.m. on August 14, 2026, a man was walking near Washington and Third in Minneapolis when a black Chevy Impala pulled up next to him. The passenger got out, pointed a firearm and demanded the purse the victim was wearing. The assailant pushed the victim to the ground, took the purse and fled. The suspect wore a grey hoody.

About an hour later, two people were walking near 26th and Stevens in Minneapolis when they noticed a black Chevy Impala following them slowly. As they entered a locked dorm building, the driver exited the vehicle, followed them inside, showed a handgun and demanded their phones, wallets and purses. The victims complied and the suspect fled. This assailant wore a black hooded jacket with red on the sides.
Within hours, officers traced the stolen phones from the second robbery to the area of 25th and Harriet. Police found a parked black Chevy Impala matching the vehicle seen in both robberies, identified by unique markings, decals and headlight damage visible on surveillance footage. Inside the car, officers found the credit card belonging to the victim from the first robbery.
Investigators learned that Anthony Cory Johnson had made statements about robbing a man earlier in the night and then robbing two women walking into an apartment building. Officers were also told that Johnson had parked the car used in the robberies near 25th and Harriet, which matched the location where the stolen phones were traced.
On August 25, 2026, Johnson and another person were arrested in Stearns County for aggravated robbery. They were found with two firearms. Surveillance footage from the Stearns County incidents allowed officers to clearly identify Johnson as one of the people attempting to use the stolen credit card from the first robbery.
On September 1, 2026, officers executed a search warrant at Johnson’s home and found a black hooded jacket with red on the sides, matching the clothing worn by the assailant in the second robbery and seen on surveillance video. Investigators also determined that the cell phone number associated with Johnson was in the area of both robberies on August 14.
The complaint states that Johnson presents a danger to public safety and that the State has requested a warrant for his arrest.
The charge was filed Friday, September 4, in Hennepin County District Court.
