A Minneapolis man is accused of punching a teenage boy at a Saint Paul bus shelter and then chasing down a second teen on his bike and taking his phone, according to a criminal complaint.
Cody Wayne Bruguier, who was 36 at the time of the alleged offense, faces a felony count of simple robbery and a misdemeanor count of fifth-degree assault. The complaint was issued Aug. 19 in Ramsey County District Court, and bail was set at $25,000.
According to the complaint, two teenage boys were in a bus shelter on Snelling Avenue near Saint Clair Avenue at about 8:20 p.m. on Aug. 17 when Bruguier rode up on a fat-tire bike. He asked one of them what he was looking at, punched him in the head and said, “Run them pockets.” That boy went to a pizzeria across the street.

The other boy rode off on his bike, and Bruguier followed, caught up with him and pushed his shoulder, making him drop his phone, the complaint says. Bruguier asked where the phone went, picked it up when the boy pointed to it and rode away.
The phone was tracked to the area of Selby Avenue and Avon Street, where officers found Bruguier on a bike at a gas station. He rode off when told to stop, crashed and was taken into custody, and officers recovered the phone, according to the complaint. The boy identified him, and the phone was returned.
Bruguier declined to be interviewed. The complaint says he has two prior felony convictions for third-degree assault.
The robbery count carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a $20,000 fine or both, according to the complaint.
