A Saint Paul man broke into a Maplewood apartment through a window and struck a man in the head with a flashlight before biting a woman who tried to intervene, according to charges.
Aveion Maurice Morgan, 25, faces a charge of first-degree burglary involving assault, court records show.
According to the complaint, Maplewood police responded to a report of a domestic burglary at an apartment on the north side of the city at about 1:33 a.m. on August 22, 2026. Officers arrived to hear shouting and what sounded like a physical struggle inside. When they entered, they saw a man attempting to hold down Aveion Maurice Morgan. The man was bleeding from the head and appeared to be drifting in and out of consciousness.

The homeowner told officers that she and Morgan have children in common, but the children were not present. She said she and the man were in bed together when they heard pounding on the north window, which then moved to the east window. She reported that Morgan entered the home without permission through the east window, then struck the man repeatedly in the head with a flashlight. When she tried to intervene, Morgan bit her on the right arm. Officers observed a bite mark on her arm.
The man told police he and the homeowner are “friends with benefits” and that he was staying with her after a recent hernia surgery. He said Morgan entered through the window without permission, hit him with an object and choked him. He said he placed Morgan in a choke hold until police arrived.
After being advised of his rights, Morgan told officers he went to the residence to check on the homeowner’s story that she was going to the casino that night. He said he did not believe her, so he took a ride-share to her place. Morgan claimed he knocked on the front door and that the man answered, shoving him in the face with an open hand.
Morgan said he “lost it” and described the altercation as mutual. He denied entering through a window or getting physical with the homeowner. Officers did not observe any injuries to Morgan. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, August 25.
Morgan is scheduled to appear in Ramsey County court on August 25, 2026.
