Three men beat and robbed another man outside a Saint Paul gas station, then tried to escape on ride-share scooters before officers caught up with them, according to charges.
Darious Hampton Knight, 20, of Saint Paul, faces a charge of aiding and abetting first-degree aggravated robbery.
The assault happened on August 20, 2026, near a gas station in Saint Paul. Multiple 911 callers reported seeing three men attacking another man and taking money from him. Officers arrived and found the victim, who had been hiding in a nearby business. The victim told police he did not know the men and said they punched and kicked him after a brief interaction. He also reported that seven one-dollar bills were missing from his pocket.
Officers observed injuries to the victim, including a bleeding nose, facial bruising, swelling and bleeding from his elbow. Police soon found three men riding scooters nearby who matched the descriptions given by witnesses. They were detained and identified as Darious Hampton Knight, 20, Charles Satash Fillmore and Chaz Edward Williams. Officers found seven one-dollar bills in Knight’s sweatshirt pocket and noted blood on his shoes.

According to court records, Williams told officers that the victim had previously made comments that made women he knew uncomfortable. He said that on this day, he and the others confronted the victim and after a brief conversation, they beat him up. One witness driving by told police he saw the three men “stomping out” the victim, then returning to assault him again after circling the block. The witness said he saw them go through the victim’s pockets and take money before fleeing.
During a Mirandized interview, Fillmore admitted to throwing at least one punch but did not elaborate further. Williams claimed the victim swung at him first, prompting him to punch back before the others joined in. Williams also said Knight took money from the victim as they left. Knight told investigators that he could not punch the victim due to a broken arm but admitted to repeatedly kicking him. He denied taking the money, claiming Williams put it in his pocket after the assault.
Surveillance video reviewed by investigators showed the three men confronting the victim, with Williams throwing the first punch. The video captured Knight kicking the victim, who fell to the ground and both Fillmore and Knight repeatedly punching and kicking him while he was defenseless. After the assault, Knight was seen picking up an item from near the victim’s body.
He is scheduled to appear in court Monday, August 24.
