A barrage of gunfire struck a Minneapolis home while at least three people were inside, including one person sleeping on a couch near a window, prosecutors say.

Frank Manuel Johnson, 22, faces three felony charges in Hennepin County District Court: second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, drive-by shooting toward an occupied building and reckless discharge of a firearm within a municipality. The charges were filed October 29.

According to the complaint, officers responded to a shotspotter alert of at least 30 gunshots at a residence in Minneapolis at about 8:12 p.m. on October 7, 2026. When officers arrived, they found about 50 discharged cartridge casings in front of the home. The windows and exterior of the house had been struck by bullets and multiple rounds had traveled into the home.

At least three people were inside the residence during the shooting. The complaint states that one person had been sleeping on a couch near the window when the shots were fired and bullet holes were found in the wall just inches from where that person had been sleeping. Another person inside the home was a male juvenile who, according to investigators, was the presumed target of the shooting.

Surveillance footage captured a grey Ford Escape with Minnesota plates registered to Frank Manuel Johnson slowing down and stopping in front of the home. The complaint says a barrage of gunshots was then fired from the area of the vehicle before it sped away.

Investigators learned through cellphone data that the male juvenile had robbed Frank Manuel Johnson of drugs and money the day before the shooting. The complaint states that Johnson and the juvenile communicated about the drug deal the day before the shooting and that threatening text messages were sent by Johnson to the juvenile on the same day as the shooting.

Officers later found and searched the vehicle registered to Frank Manuel Johnson. The interior of the vehicle showed signs of gunfire originating from inside.
