A Minneapolis man is charged with stabbing a man in the stomach outside a restaurant on Chicago Avenue after asking why the man was walking up on him, according to a criminal complaint.
Nathan Lamar Stewart, 37, faces a felony count of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. The complaint was issued Oct. 14 in Hennepin County District Court, and bail was set at $50,000.
According to the complaint, officers were sent Oct. 8 to a strip mall on the 1900 block of Chicago Avenue on a 911 call reporting a stabbing. The man who was stabbed told officers he was picking up food at a restaurant there when he noticed a man making threats to people outside. As he approached the entrance, the man asked why he was walking up on him. He said he was only there for his food, and the man pulled out a knife, threatened to stab him and stabbed him once in the stomach area, the complaint says.

The attacker rode off on a black motorbike with a small tan dog, according to the complaint. The man who was stabbed had a one-inch wound to his upper abdomen and was in stable condition at the hospital. Surveillance video captured the stabbing, and a witness backed up his account.
On Oct. 11 and 12, an investigator watching city camera video of the area spotted a man with the same dog, and on Oct. 12 wearing the same orange-red coat, the complaint says. Officers went to the area and arrested Stewart. The coat was found in his vehicle, and the man who was stabbed picked Stewart’s photo from a lineup, according to the complaint.
