A man pointed a rifle at two women inside a Minneapolis apartment while questioning them, according to a criminal complaint.

Kalvin Boyd Jr., who was 24 at the time of the alleged offense, faces three charges in Hennepin County District Court: second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, threats of violence and carrying a pistol without a permit.

According to the complaint, officers responded to a weapons call at an apartment in Minneapolis at about 11:53 p.m. on October 22, 2026. Police spoke with a woman who said she was visiting a friend at the apartment complex. The woman told officers that Kalvin Boyd Jr. was present and became increasingly agitated as he questioned both women.

The complaint states that when Boyd was unsatisfied with their answers, he grabbed a rifle and pointed it at both women while continuing to ask questions. The woman told police she was scared as Boyd pointed the firearm in her direction. The situation eventually de-escalated and the woman was able to leave the apartment.

Officers later executed a search warrant at the apartment. Inside, they found a garbage can containing a backpack with two firearms, including a rifle. The complaint says Boyd does not have a permit for the firearms.

The second-degree assault charge alleges Boyd used a dangerous weapon to threaten or cause fear of bodily harm. The threats of violence charge accuses him of reckless disregard for risk to others. The firearms charge alleges he carried or possessed a pistol in a public place without a permit.

The charges were filed October 26.
