Demand for Money and Gun Threat, Man Charged in Pelican Rapids

A man shot out a vehicle window and threatened to kill a woman’s son while demanding money in Pelican Rapids, according to a criminal complaint filed in Otter Tail County.

Aldin Saric, 26, faces four charges: threats of violence, fourth-degree damage to property and two counts of fifth-degree assault.

According to the complaint, Pelican Rapids police were first dispatched at about 3:38 p.m. on October 24 to an apartment in Pelican Rapids after a report of two males fighting. A man at the apartment told officers that Saric entered and immediately tried to hit him in the face while yelling, “Pay Me My Money!” He said he tried to push Saric away, but Saric kept trying to fight and struck him on the left side of the face.

The apartment owner told them to go outside because there were children present, and Saric left the residence, driving away in a black Cadillac Escalade.

The man told police Saric was angry because a restitution judgment required him to pay Saric for a vehicle he had crashed.

About 20 minutes later, officers were dispatched to another location in Pelican Rapids after a report of shots fired at a vehicle. Law enforcement learned through a translator that a woman was sitting in the front passenger seat of her vehicle when Saric approached, yelling, “Where is your son, he owes me money.” The woman said Saric then went to the back of the vehicle and shot out a window.

She said she did not see a gun. She told officers Saric said he was going to get a gun and kill her son before leaving in the Cadillac Escalade.

Saric was located about 20 minutes later in Fergus Falls.

The threats of violence charge alleges Saric threatened to kill the woman’s son, while the fourth-degree damage to property charge stems from the shooting out of the vehicle window. The two fifth-degree assault charges relate to Saric’s attempts to hit the man and causing fear of bodily harm.

The charges were filed October 26 in Otter Tail County District Court.
