An Onamia man is charged with helping the gunman who shot and wounded two men outside a Mahnomen bar Aug. 1 escape arrest, and with threatening officers while being treated at a hospital later that morning, according to a criminal complaint filed in Mahnomen County.

Remigio Gene Pacheco, 27, faces a felony count of assault in the first degree causing great bodily harm, aiding an offender, a felony count of threats of violence with reckless disregard of the risk of causing terror, and a misdemeanor count of fleeing a peace officer on foot. The complaint was filed Aug. 3 in Mahnomen County District Court.

Law enforcement responded about 12:22 a.m. to King’s Corner Bar after a shooting was reported, the complaint says. A woman who had been drinking at the bar told deputies she was walking toward two parked vehicles with three men she did not know well when two other men approached. The three men confronted one of them, asking who he was and where his brother was, and a fight broke out. The woman said she heard six gunshots behind her as she walked back toward the bar and everyone scattered.

One man was shot in the lower back and pelvis area, and another was shot in both knees; both were taken to a hospital, according to the complaint. One of the wounded men refused to say who shot him, and the other was unwilling to give information.

Witnesses told deputies the shooter was known by a nickname and that the men wore medallions associated with the Native Mob street gang, the complaint says. One of the wounded men confirmed to an investigator that the shooter was the defendant’s brother, and said he saw the defendant throw the first punch before the shots.

A deputy found the defendant lying on the ground near the building after the shooting, the complaint says. He ran when the deputy approached, ignored commands to stop and a warning that he would be tased, and tripped and fell before he was handcuffed. The complaint says his bloody mouth came from injuries he had before officers arrived and from the fall.

At the hospital, the defendant was intoxicated and agitated, demanded to use a bathroom, moved medical equipment and said officers had caused his facial injuries, according to the complaint. The complaint says he told one officer he was going to punch him in the face and later threatened to knock out another officer.

Witnesses believed the confrontation was retaliation for a man’s stabbing death at the bar in December 2025, and one told deputies there had been mention of retaliation, according to the complaint.

The aiding count carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison, a $5,000 fine or both, according to the complaint.
