A man stabbed another man in the chest with a knife near 26th Street and Cedar Avenue South in Minneapolis, causing a collapsed lung, prosecutors say.

Abdikadir Ali Noor, 38, faces a charge of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon causing substantial bodily harm, according to a complaint filed October 26 in Hennepin County District Court.

According to the complaint, officers responded to a 911 call on October 23 reporting that the caller’s brother had been stabbed. When officers arrived, they found the victim bleeding from the chest. The victim described the suspect and his clothing, telling police that the man had been harassing the victim’s uncle over money the uncle may have owed.

The complaint states that an argument began, which escalated into a physical fight. During the fight, the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest before fleeing. The victim told officers he had knocked Noor to the ground during the fight and tried to disengage, but Noor spit in his face, leading to the fight starting again. The victim said he continued to try to disengage, but Noor would not stop and ultimately stabbed him.

Officers searched the area and found Abdikadir Ali Noor, who matched the suspect’s description, appeared to have been running and was covered in dirt. Police pat searched Noor and found a fixed-blade knife with blood on the blade. Noor was arrested at the scene.

The complaint says officers conducted a photographic show-up with the victim in the ambulance on the way to the hospital, and the victim identified Noor as the person who stabbed him. Investigators also obtained surveillance video that showed the fight, with the victim knocking Noor to the ground and walking away. The video showed Noor getting up, re-engaging the victim, and then running away as the victim collapsed on the sidewalk.

In a post-Miranda statement, Noor admitted to being in a fight that evening but denied stabbing anyone. He claimed the blood on his knife came from poking his own leg during the fight, but officers did not observe any injury to his leg that would explain the blood.

The complaint states the victim suffered a collapsed lung as a result of the stabbing. Investigators are seeking the victim’s medical records, and more serious charges may be filed depending on the extent of the injuries.
