A Saint Paul teenager fired multiple gunshots at three juveniles walking along Marion Street in the early morning hours, striking two of them and later bragging about the shooting on a group phone call, according to charges.

Jerry D’John Anthony Sanders, 18, of Saint Paul, faces three counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. The charges were filed Friday in Ramsey County District Court.

According to the complaint, officers responded at about 2:00 a.m. on September 1, 2026, after two juveniles were shot. The victims, a boy and a girl, ran to a nearby address after being struck by gunfire. Officers found four discharged cartridge casings at the southeast corner of Marion Street and Sherburne Avenue. The boy had a gunshot wound to his lower left leg and was transported to Regions Hospital. The girl suffered a graze wound to her left calf and was treated at the scene.

A third juvenile told investigators that he, the two victims and he were walking to a McDonald’s but were denied service at the drive-thru. As they walked north on Marion Street, the third juvenile received a FaceTime call from the suspect, which ended abruptly before he heard about five gunshots. The group ran south on Marion Street, and two were struck by gunfire.

The third juvenile identified the shooter by a nickname and provided the apartment number where the suspect lived. He also described an ongoing dispute involving disrespectful comments exchanged online. Investigators linked the shooter’s social media accounts to Jerry D’John Anthony Sanders after comparing photographs.

A concerned citizen who was on a call with one of the victims at the time of the shooting told police the shooter was a young Black male wearing a black hoodie with orange, black pants and a ski mask. The concerned citizen provided Sanders’s social media account, which included a video of Sanders counting money with a firearm under his arm. The concerned citizen said Sanders used the handgun seen in the video to shoot the victims and described it as a P80 Glock 19 with a silver-threaded barrel.

Shortly after the shooting, Sanders joined a group phone call and bragged about the shooting, making statements such as, “I just blew your homie down,” and “I came out with 31 came back in with 21, I blew 11 shots at they b**** a**.” Sanders also texted one of the victims, “Are you okay? You gone stop playing with me now.”

Investigators executed a search warrant at the apartment associated with Sanders, but he was not present. An adult male and an adult female were at the apartment and said Sanders had been there from noon on August 31 until 7:00 a.m. on September 1.

A witness in the area reported hearing three to five gunshots and saw a Black male wearing a black sweatshirt with red or orange and a hat or mask enter the apartment building shortly after the shooting. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, September 8.

Sanders is scheduled to appear in Ramsey County court on September 8, 2026.

Minnesota classifies assault by degree under § 609.221 (first), § 609.222 (second), § 609.223 (third), § 609.2231 (fourth) and § 609.224 (fifth).
