Two young men were shot Monday afternoon in downtown Saint Paul in an incident that drew a large police response across multiple blocks.

The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. on May 4 on the 100 block of West Kellogg Boulevard. Officers arriving on scene reported hearing active gunfire in multiple areas, according to the Saint Paul Police Department.

Police secured three separate scenes, two on the 100 block of West Kellogg Boulevard and one on the 300 block of Washington Street. Multiple spent shell casings and blood were found near the intersection of West Kellogg Boulevard and 7th Street West.

Both victims, described as young adult males, suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds. One was shot in the face and the other in the leg, according to initial dispatch reports. Both were transported to the hospital by private vehicles.

Three possible suspects were taken into custody a short time later in a parking ramp near Smith Avenue North and West Kellogg Boulevard. A Minnesota State Patrol helicopter assisted in the search for suspects.

The Saint Paul Police Department’s Non-Fatal Shooting Unit is investigating. No suspect information has been released.
