An 18-year-old from Monticello who was already under court-ordered restrictions for his phone and computer is now accused of storing child sexual abuse material on his school-issued laptop.

Andrew Gerald Olson faces three felony counts of possessing child sexual abuse material on a computer in Wright County.

According to the criminal complaint, a Wright County probation agent visited Olson at his school in Otsego on Jan. 22 to check whether he was complying with court-ordered restrictions on his phone and computer use. The agent examined Olson's phone and found messages consistent with the exchange of sexual images with a person Olson believed was 17 years old.

A school resource officer seized both the phone and Olson's school-issued computer, the complaint says.

A detective searched the computer under a search warrant and discovered that Olson had created a separate non-school account on the device. In the deleted folder of that account, as well as among files that had not been deleted, the detective found multiple videos constituting child sexual abuse material, according to court records.

The videos included a four-second clip of two nude males, likely under 10 years old; a three-minute video of two males, one likely 10 to 12 years of age; and a three-and-a-half-minute video of two juvenile males, one who appeared to be around 10 years old, the complaint says.

Olson resides in Monticello and attends school in Otsego, both in Wright County. The existing court-ordered restrictions that prompted the probation visit were not available as of publication.

Each count of possessing child sexual abuse material carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Olson's first appearance on these charges is set for April 24.
