According to the complaint, the victim was seen arriving at the park the evening before the incident. The video shows Basswood entering the park around 3:05 a.m. on May 7, speaking with another individual and then approaching the victim. The footage reveals Basswood making two stabbing motions toward the victim’s chest before quickly leaving the scene. Investigators later identified Basswood through video surveillance from a nearby pizza restaurant and a gentleman’s club he visited prior to the stabbing.

Officers located Basswood at his apartment building on May 11, where a building manager identified him from a still image taken from the restaurant. Upon his arrest, clothing items seen in the surveillance videos and two knives were recovered from his apartment. Basswood is currently in custody.

If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison for the 2nd-degree murder charge. A court date has not yet been set.
