Snowmobiler Dies After Crash on Arrowhead Trail

A North Branch man died after a snowmobile crash on a remote trail in northern Saint Louis County late Thursday night.

The crash was reported shortly after 10 p.m. March 5 on the Arrowhead Trail about 25 miles north of Orr, according to initial information from authorities.

Officials say the man had been riding with a group when he became separated from the others. A friend later reported him missing after the group lost contact.

About an hour later, the 29-year-old was found dead near his snowmobile along the trail.

Investigators believe he was alone on the snowmobile and failed to make a 90-degree turn before striking a tree. No other riders were involved.

Authorities have not yet released the man’s name as they work to notify family. The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office and the Saint Louis County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate.
