A woman stabbed another woman in the stomach outside a Duluth apartment building after accusing her in text messages of messing with her head, according to charges.
Spring Rain McColley, 25, faces a felony charge of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, court records show.
According to the complaint, officers with the Duluth Police Department responded at about 3:09 p.m. on Sept. 30 to a report of a stabbing at an apartment building in Duluth. Officers found the victim with a wound on her stomach. The victim told officers she had left her apartment earlier with a friend who lived in the same building, and the two ran errands before returning.

The friend went to his own apartment, and the victim began receiving text messages from McColley accusing her of “f****** with her head.”
The victim said she went outside and saw McColley sitting on a wall with her dog, and that when she approached and asked about the messages, McColley kicked her in the stomach, causing her to fall backwards. McColley then asked the victim if she wanted to die that day. The victim noticed a knife next to McColley, described as having a black handle and a multicolored rainbow blade about six inches long.
McColley picked up the knife, held it up and threatened to stab the victim before stabbing her in the stomach, the complaint says.
Medical staff later determined the stab wound was about three-quarters of an inch long and penetrated to the border of the abdominal cavity, according to court documents. The knife was later found in McColley’s mother’s apartment.
In a Mirandized statement, McColley admitted to stabbing the victim in the stomach, according to the complaint. She told officers that, from her perspective, the victim was the aggressor, claiming the victim yelled at her, jumped at her and pushed her, causing McColley’s head to hit the concrete wall. McColley said she took out her knife when the victim got in her face again.
The charge was filed Oct. 2 in Saint Louis County District Court.
