A man forced his way into another man’s room at a Minneapolis residential building and attacked him with a box cutter, leaving him with deep cuts to his face and head, according to charges.
Jeffrey Edward Wicks, 45, faces felony charges of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and third-degree assault causing substantial bodily harm.
According to the complaint, officers responded to a residential building in Minneapolis on Aug. 22 after a report of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they found the victim with a large laceration on the left side of his face and another on top of his head. The victim told officers that Wicks, whom he had known for about two years, forced his way into the room that evening and attacked him.

The complaint states that after the assault, Wicks fled the scene and the victim briefly chased after him. Officers learned that Wicks had left his Minnesota State ID at the front desk when he checked in. Investigators reviewed security footage from the building, which showed Wicks kicking the door to the victim’s room, entering and then leaving a short time later. The video also showed the victim bleeding as he followed Wicks out of the room.
Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital, where medical staff documented a through-and-through laceration to the left cheek, a scalp wound and a fracture of the left lateral maxillary sinus wall. Paramedics noted that the victim’s tongue was visible through the cheek laceration. The victim told hospital staff that a known individual attacked him with a box cutter, hit him with a fist and kicked him. He reported losing consciousness during the assault.
Wicks is charged with second-degree assault for using a dangerous weapon and third-degree assault for causing substantial bodily harm.
The charges were filed Oct. 2 in Hennepin County District Court.
