The child who was driving the UTV reportedly lost control while attempting to turn across rough terrain, causing the vehicle to flip, the sheriff’s office said in a media release.
The child was pinned underneath the UTV and had to be pulled out by family members before deputies, Fergus Falls police, firefighters and Ringdahl Ambulance crews arrived. The 8-year-old was not wearing a seatbelt or helmet. A juvenile sibling who was riding as a passenger was belted in and was not hurt.
