A 911 call picked up one man telling another to “come shoot me then,” and officers later found a handgun with two rounds in its magazine under a rock behind a Saint Paul home, according to a criminal complaint.
Michael John Law, 46, is charged in Ramsey County District Court with possessing a firearm or ammunition after a conviction and threats of violence.
The complaint says dispatch got a disconnected 911 call at about 11:07 p.m. on October 18 in which one man asked the other, “Who are you going to shoot…..come shoot me then.” Officers went to the 1000 block of Wakefield Avenue and found the caller on the back deck. He first said he did not want to talk with officers, then told them another man in the home had threatened to shoot him in the face.

He said the two had argued for about an hour and Law threatened to shoot him four or five times, at one point following him upstairs. He told officers he had seen Law with a gun the day before but that Law never pointed one at him. When he yelled that the gun was not loaded, he said, Law answered, “Come down and I’ll prove that it is.”
Officers found Law in the back yard and arrested him. A bag in his wallet held two baggies. One tested positive for fentanyl and weighed 0.04 grams, the complaint says. An officer found a Smith & Wesson M&P 9 Shield under a large rock behind the yard, with one hollow-point and one full metal jacket round in the magazine.
Law told a sergeant after being read his rights that the other man had threatened him with brass knuckles with a knife on them and he denied having a gun. The complaint says Law has a prior felony drug conviction that bars him from having firearms or ammunition.
