A tipster told a supervising agent that a man on supervised release in Saint Paul was carrying a firearm in his backpack, vehicle and at work and kept a loaded magazine with ammunition, according to the complaint.

Jacob Savon Gunn, 24, faces three felony charges of possessing a firearm or ammunition after being convicted of a violent crime, according to a complaint filed Oct. 29 in Ramsey County District Court.

The complaint states that Gunn was released from the Department of Corrections on supervised release in February 2026 after serving a sentence for second-degree assault. On Aug. 22, Gunn’s supervising agents conducted a walkthrough of his Saint Paul residence, where Gunn identified the right side of the apartment as his area, including a bedroom, closet and bathroom. Gunn told agents that his uncle occupied the left side of the apartment.

On Oct. 18, a woman contacted Gunn’s supervising agent by text message, reporting that Gunn possessed a firearm and carried it at all times, including in his backpack, vehicle and at work. She also reported that Gunn had a magazine with ammunition and said she was concerned for her safety and Gunn’s continued involvement in dangerous activities.

The complaint notes that she had previously emailed the supervising agent about Gunn leaving the residence without permission and consuming alcohol.

On Oct. 27, Gunn’s supervising agents and Saint Paul police officers searched the apartment. All occupants, including Gunn, were removed from the residence. In Gunn’s closet, an agent found a 9mm handgun concealed between folded pairs of pants. The handgun, identified as a CZ P-10 S 9mm, contained a magazine loaded with hollow-point rounds and a live round in the chamber. In Gunn’s bathroom, police found a black bag behind the door containing a Rossi Rio Bravo .22 LR lever-action rifle.

After being advised of his rights, Gunn acknowledged that the handgun was recovered from his bedroom closet but denied knowing about it. When an investigator asked if his DNA would be on the firearm, Gunn responded, “I really don’t know,” but agreed that “it does look pretty bad” having a firearm in his bedroom. Investigators obtained a DNA sample from Gunn pursuant to a search warrant.

The complaint says he has two prior felony convictions for second-degree assault. It states that Gunn is considered a danger to public safety and is subject to increased penalties under state law. Bail was set at $200,000.
