A woman poured gasoline inside a hunting cabin, threatened to burn it down and pointed a shotgun at a man’s head in Linden Grove Township, prosecutors say.

Kenda Jayni Benner, 31, faces three felony charges in Saint Louis County District Court: threats of violence, second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and attempted first-degree arson, according to a complaint filed October 19.

According to the complaint, deputies from the Saint Louis County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a hunting cabin in Linden Grove Township on October 15 after a report of an assault. Deputies spoke with the victim, an adult man, who said Benner had been calling a member of the hunting party all day, knew he was at the cabin and arrived there angry.

The complaint states that Benner got out of her vehicle, grabbed a can of gasoline from the yard and entered the cabin. She began pouring gasoline throughout the interior. When the victim asked what she was doing, Benner said she would burn the place down. Benner then took a shotgun from a nearby case and pointed it at the victim’s head, telling him she would kill him. The victim reported being afraid for his life and ran out of the cabin.

Deputies found Benner passed out in her vehicle and took her into custody. Inside the cabin, deputies found a shotgun behind the couch near the front door. The interior smelled strongly of gasoline, and deputies observed liquid stains inside the front door on the floor. Two empty gas cans were located in the back bedroom.
