A woman driving a black Chevrolet Equinox ran a stop sign at a rural Athens Township intersection and struck a Nissan Murano, killing the other driver, according to the complaint.
Julie Kay Lind, 62, faces a charge of criminal vehicular homicide for operating a motor vehicle in a grossly negligent manner, according to a complaint filed October 7 in Isanti County District Court.
The complaint states that at about 9:36 a.m. on March 4, Isanti County deputies responded to the intersection of Durant Street NE and 269th Avenue NE in Athens Township after a report of a two-vehicle crash with injuries. When deputies arrived, they found two vehicles in a field at the southeast corner of the intersection, one on its passenger side and the other on its roof, both with significant damage.

A passerby told a deputy that the woman in the vehicle closest to him, later identified as Julie Kay Lind, was injured but alert and talking with bystanders. The passerby said there was still someone in the other vehicle who was not responding. The deputy checked on Lind, then moved to the other vehicle, a grey Nissan Murano, and found the driver unresponsive with visible injuries.
Emergency responders freed the driver and attempted CPR, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the complaint, a witness driving eastbound behind the Nissan Murano told deputies that Lind’s vehicle was traveling southbound on Durant Street NE at what the witness believed to be above highway speeds. The witness stated that Lind’s vehicle never slowed or stopped at the stop sign before striking the Nissan Murano, which had the right of way on 269th Avenue NE.
Investigators documented the scene and observed that the initial point of impact was in the center of the eastbound lane of 269th Avenue NE. The Midwest Medical Examiner determined the cause of death for the victim was multiple blunt force trauma injuries due to the motor vehicle collision.
