A man died after he lost control of an ATV and was thrown from it in Athens Township overnight, the Isanti County Sheriff’s Office says.

Isanti County dispatchers received a call around 5:40 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, reporting an ATV in a ditch and a body on the ground on Lever Street Northeast, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies arrived to find a man who was severely injured. They attempted lifesaving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

An initial investigation found that sometime between midnight and 5:40 a.m., the man was heading south in the 25700 block of Lever Street Northeast when he lost control of the ATV, the sheriff’s office said. He was ejected and was not wearing protective equipment.

His name will be released after the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office confirms his identity and his family is notified.

The crash remains under investigation.
