A man attacked a delivery driver who refused to hand over alcohol, then threw a vase at him and threatened him with a knife, according to charges. Deputies responded Sept. 14 to an apartment building in Chanhassen.
Sadiq Abdi Mohamed, 20, of Chanhassen, is charged with two felony counts of second-degree assault, gross misdemeanor fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct and misdemeanor underage alcohol purchase.
The driver told deputies that Mohamed presented identification that a scan showed was fake. He said he offered to leave the nonalcoholic items, but Mohamed shoved him and tried to take the alcohol, according to the complaint.
When the driver tried to retrieve a bottle, Mohamed repeatedly hit him. The driver also reported that Mohamed squeezed his throat and subjected him to unwanted sexual contact.
Mohamed went upstairs after another person entered the lobby, then returned with a glass vase filled with marbles and threw it at the driver, the complaint says. The vase struck the driver’s chest, knocked him backward and shattered.
The driver said Mohamed went upstairs again and returned with a knife, pointing it at him while advancing. Deputies found the driver outside with a bleeding facial cut and blood on his neck.
Deputies documented blood and broken glass in the lobby. Mohamed eventually surrendered, and investigators recovered a knife matching the driver’s description from the apartment.
Mohamed denied starting the confrontation and said the driver pushed him against a wall and choked him. He also denied throwing the vase and attempting to buy alcohol. The complaint says his descriptions of how he was choked changed during the interview.
