A woman repeatedly struck squad vehicles while trying to drive away from a traffic stop, according to charges. Troopers stopped her around 4:30 a.m. Sept. 13 near Washington Avenue and Second Avenue South in Minneapolis.
Jennifer Ann Donovan, 38, of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, is charged with felony fleeing police in a motor vehicle and gross misdemeanor refusal to submit to a chemical test.
A trooper reported seeing Donovan accelerate and brake aggressively while changing lanes without signaling. During the stop, the trooper described her eyes as bloodshot and watery and her speech as rapid, according to the complaint.
Donovan denied drinking and said other drivers were following her. She refused to get out and said she did not feel safe, according to the complaint.
When additional troopers tried to box in her Cadillac, Donovan accelerated and struck their squads several times while trying to push through. Troopers removed her from the car.
A preliminary breath test registered 0.000. Troopers suspected impairment from something other than alcohol and obtained a warrant for a blood or urine sample. The complaint says Donovan refused both options after being told that refusal was a crime.
