A man on a stolen motorcycle led Edina police on a high-speed chase through red lights before crashing and fleeing on foot in the early morning hours.
Anthony Christopher McGee, 34, of Edina, faces five charges: fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, fleeing a peace officer by a means other than a motor vehicle, theft of a motor vehicle and two counts of DWI, one for operating under the influence of a controlled substance and another for operating with any amount of a Schedule I or II drug in his system.
According to the criminal complaint, officers attempted to stop a motorcycle near Edinborough Way and Minnesota Drive at about 2:12 a.m. on May 16, 2026, after the driver failed to stop at a stop sign. When officers activated their emergency lights, the motorcycle accelerated away, running a red light as it fled. Officers did not pursue but broadcast the motorcycle’s description and location.

A short time later, officers found the motorcycle crashed and lying on its side in the roadway. As they approached, they saw the driver, later identified as McGee, running from the scene. Officers ordered him to stop, but McGee continued to flee on foot. After a lengthy chase, officers apprehended and arrested him.
While interacting with McGee, officers noted a strong odor of consumed alcohol and observed that his eyes were watery. Officers obtained a warrant for a blood sample, which was collected at Fairview Southdale Hospital at about 4:19 a.m. The sample was submitted to the BCA for testing. A report dated June 15, 2026, showed McGee’s blood contained cocaine and benzoylecgonine, a cocaine metabolite.
Officers also discovered the motorcycle had no license plates and confirmed it had been stolen from Texas. The complaint states McGee did not have the owner’s consent to take or drive the motorcycle.
Court records show McGee has two prior DWI convictions.
McGee is in custody at the Hennepin County Jail. The charges were filed Wednesday, June 24. A court date has not yet been set.
