A 46-year-old man is facing multiple first-degree drug charges after a DWI traffic stop turned up fentanyl and two ounces of cocaine in his hotel room.

Davey Terrell Crockett faces four counts of first-degree controlled substance crime--two for sale and two for possession--along with fifth-degree drug possession and misdemeanor DWI.

According to the criminal complaint, Richfield police were patrolling near the intersection of Portland Avenue South and 70th Street East on Tuesday, March 31, when they spotted a Toyota Sienna with a broken brake light. Officers watched the driver weave and touch the solid white line on the right side of Portland Avenue with the vehicle’s tires.

The driver was also continuously moving while behind the wheel, a sign of impairment based on the officers’ training and experience, the complaint says.

Officers stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Crockett. As they spoke with him, he displayed jerky movements and couldn’t sit still. Officers had him complete multiple field sobriety tests, and he showed multiple signs of impairment. He was arrested for DWI.

During a search of Crockett, officers found about two ounces of fentanyl, a small amount of cocaine and a trace amount of methamphetamine on his person. In his vehicle, they found a black pellet gun designed to look like a pistol and scales used for weighing narcotics.

The next day, officers executed a search warrant on a hotel room Crockett had been using in Bloomington. Inside, they found about two ounces of cocaine along with substances that officers recognized as cutting agents commonly used in drug sales, the complaint says.
