A 28-year-old man was airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Friday morning after the pickup he was driving collided head-on with a Saint Louis County plow truck, authorities say.
The crash happened around 7:50 a.m. in the 4900 block of Fish Lake Road in Fredenberg Township.
The Saint Louis County Sheriff’s Office said the plow truck was operated by a single county employee with no other occupants. The pickup was driven by the Fredenberg Township man. A dog was also in the pickup at the time of the crash.

The man was transported by LifeLink helicopter for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The dog did not have any apparent major injuries and was returned to a family member.
Investigators believe alcohol use by the pickup driver was a contributing factor in the crash. The Minnesota State Patrol and the Saint Louis County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.

The 4900 block of Fish Lake Road was closed following the crash and was expected to remain closed for several hours.
The Fredenberg Fire Department, Gnesen Fire, Grand Lake Fire, the Saint Louis County Rescue Squad, Mayo Ambulance, LifeLink, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Minnesota State Patrol also responded to the scene.
