One person died after being shot outside a transitional apartment complex in Edina on Wednesday afternoon, triggering lockdowns at the nearby Southdale Center mall, a hospital and several surrounding buildings as police searched for suspects.

Three men were arrested by around 4:15 p.m. for probable-cause murder in connection to the shooting, according to Edina police. They have not yet been identified or formally charged.

Investigators believe the victim and suspects knew each other and that the shooting was not a random act.

The incident happened around 12:30 p.m. in the 3300 block of West 66th Street, according to Edina Police Chief Todd Milburn. Officers found one person with a gunshot wound and attempted life-saving measures, but the victim died at the scene.

Bystanders were performing CPR when first responders arrived, according to initial radio dispatches. The victim was pronounced dead around 12:40 p.m. and hasn’t been identified as of publication.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded, including police from Eden Prairie and St. Louis Park, SWAT teams, K-9 units and the Minnesota State Patrol. State Patrol flight support was requested and troopers set up traffic detours around the area.

Southdale Center, M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital and several nearby businesses were placed in precautionary lockdowns, which have since been lifted.
