A man was killed and two others were injured in a shooting on a sidewalk near Chicago Avenue and East Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis early Friday morning.
It happened shortly before 12:30 a.m. on March 27, police say. Third Precinct officers responded and found three men who had been shot. Officers immediately began providing lifesaving aid at the scene.
Two of the men, one in his 40s and one in his 50s, were taken by ambulance to Hennepin Healthcare. The third man died at the scene, police confirmed. His identity has not been released as of publication and the conditions of the two survivors have not been made public.
Preliminary info says the men were standing on a sidewalk when at least one person opened fire before fleeing in a vehicle. Officers secured the area while investigators and forensic scientists processed the scene. Detectives are still working to determine what led to the shooting.
"This is a tragic and deeply disturbing act of violence that has taken a life, and left others seriously injured," MPD Chief Brian O'Hara said in a written statement. "This kind of violence is unacceptable, and we are committed to identifying those responsible and holding them accountable."
Police have made no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
