Man Dead, Teen Hurt in South Minneapolis Shooting

A 19-year-old man is dead and a 16-year-old boy is injured after a shooting inside a south Minneapolis apartment late Saturday night.

Third Precinct officers responded to the 2500 block of 17th Avenue South around 10:15 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting, according to a Minneapolis Police Department spokesperson.

Officers arrived and found the 19-year-old man with a fatal gunshot wound and the 16-year-old boy with apparent non-life-threatening injuries inside the apartment.

The boy was transported by ambulance to Hennepin Healthcare for treatment. The identities of the victims have not been released.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara said an altercation among a group of people inside the apartment escalated to gunfire, resulting in the man's death and the boy's injuries. The suspects fled the scene before officers arrived.

Officers secured the area and canvassed the neighborhood for witnesses. Minneapolis forensic scientists responded to process the scene and collect evidence. Investigators are working to determine the sequence of events that led to the shooting and identify those responsible.

No arrests have been made as of publication. The investigation remains active.
