According to authorities, Cyrus Lee Olson, of Perham, allegedly forced his way into the apartment of a 45-year-old woman and was seen actively stabbing and physically assaulting her. Investigators say a neighbor intervened and called 911 while the assault was happening. Officials credited the neighbor’s actions with likely saving the woman’s life.

Authorities said the woman, who suffered multiple stab wounds and other injuries, was able to escape and run to a nearby friend’s apartment. Perham EMS crews treated her at the scene before transporting her to Perham Health hospital. Officials said she was later flown by Life Link helicopter to another medical facility, where she was last reported to be in serious condition.

Authorities said Olson was located and arrested shortly after the assault. He was booked into the Otter Tail County Jail, where he is still being held on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, aggravated robbery and second-degree assault.
