Two Seriously Injured While Attempting To Start Campfire in Todd County

 

Two people were seriously burned in a campfire accident Saturday evening near Cushing.

Deputies were called around 6:26 p.m. on Oct. 18 for a report of a fire-related accident that left both victims with significant injuries.

Todd County Sheriff’s Office Investigators say the two were attempting to start a campfire in Rural Cushing when gasoline used to ignite it exploded.

According to the sheriff’s office, 34-year-old Nathaniel Larson had been using a can of gasoline when it caught fire and exploded. A nearby man, 65-year-old Jody Larson, was severely burned in the blast.

Jody was airlifted by North Memorial Air Care to a medical facility for treatment. Nathaniel was taken by Staples Ambulance to Lakewood Health System Hospital with serious burns to his hands.

Responding agencies included the Todd County Sheriff’s Office, Browerville Fire Department, Long Prairie Ambulance Service, Lakewood Health System Ambulance, Staples Ambulance, and North Memorial Air Care.

The sheriff’s office says the incident remains under investigation.
