Suspect in Brooklyn Park Killing Now Charged in 2023 Minneapolis Homicide

A Coon Rapids man already charged in a separate deadly gang shooting in Brooklyn Park has now been charged with second-degree murder for a 2023 homicide outside a Minneapolis after-hours party.

Prosecutors say 20-year-old Marquan Deshaun Tucker shot and killed a rival gang member on July 30, 2023, during a large gathering near the 2500 block of 2nd Street North in Minneapolis.

Around 4:20 a.m., police responded to a ShotSpotter activation reporting 14 rounds fired and found the victim, an adult male, lying in the middle of the street with ten gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital but died roughly 45 minutes later.

The victim was identified as a known member of the Lows gang and had attended the party with another known Lows member. Investigators learned that the event, described as an “after set,” had drawn around 200 people and took place in an area considered Highs gang territory.

Initial interviews with partygoers yielded few leads, but the case reopened after two witnesses came forward in 2025. According to the complaint, both witnesses told investigators that Tucker confessed to the killing shortly after it happened. Their accounts were reportedly consistent with scene evidence and the timeline.

Additional records tied Tucker to the party. Investigators say his Facebook messages showed him discussing the event ahead of time, and the FBI Cellular Analysis Survey Team determined his phone was at the scene at the time of the shooting. Minutes after the gunfire, Tucker messaged a known female party attendee asking, “He past?????” to which she replied, “Yup … It’s yellow tape.”

Two hours later, Tucker reportedly searched the name of the other Lows gang member that attended the party on Facebook. That same night, he screen recorded a Facebook video showing the victim’s body with captions celebrating his death.

In a post-Miranda interview, Tucker denied attending the party or knowing the victim had been killed.

Prosecutors noted Tucker’s extensive history with the Highs gang and said this case was part of an escalating pattern of gang-motivated violence.

Tucker is also charged with murder in a December 7, 2024 shooting outside a Brooklyn Park shopping plaza. In that case, two people were shot shortly after one posted his location at a clothing store in a Facebook story. Surveillance video and Facebook activity tied Tucker to the ambush, which killed one known Lows member and injured another.

Tucker was previously charged as a juvenile for his role in a 2022 gang-related killing at the Mall of America. He did not fire a weapon in that case but reportedly blocked the victim’s escape just before the fatal shooting. Prosecutors say surveillance footage and social media activity show Tucker stalking the victim through the mall and later celebrating the death online.

According to the complaint, Tucker’s online activity over several years has promoted the Highs gang, including photos with known gang members, gang tattoos, and social media posts referencing shootings and rivals’ deaths.

Tucker is charged with two counts of second-degree intentional murder, including one count that alleges the crime was committed to benefit a gang. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of three years and a maximum of 40 years on each count if convicted.

Tucker has been in custody since December 2024 in connection to the Brooklyn Park homicide, with bail in that case set at $1 million. He was charged by warrant in the new Minneapolis case and is expected to make his first court appearance Tuesday morning. Bail on the 2023 murder charges has been set at $2 million.
