An Apple Valley man threw bloody gauze into a police officer’s face in Minneapolis and repeatedly spit at emergency responders while naked and bleeding, according to charges.
Ayub Omar Dhere, 27, faces a felony charge of fourth-degree assault for throwing or transferring bodily fluids onto a peace officer.
According to the criminal complaint, police, firefighters and paramedics responded to a call about an intoxicated male in the 3400 block of Dupont Avenue South in Minneapolis on September 6, 2026. Officers arrived to find Dhere naked and bleeding from his nose. Minneapolis Fire Department personnel attempted to stop the bleeding, but Dhere grabbed the bloody gauze and threw it directly into a police officer’s face, striking the officer’s eye, lip and cheek.

Officers placed Dhere under arrest, but he continued to spit at officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel. The complaint states Dhere persistently resisted and kept spitting until responders applied a spit shield.
The complaint says the officers arrived in fully marked uniforms.
The charge of fourth-degree assault alleges Dhere intentionally threw or transferred bodily fluids onto a peace officer performing official duties. The complaint does not specify any injuries to the officer beyond being struck in the face with the bloody gauze.
The charge was filed Monday, September 28, in Hennepin County District Court.
