A Minneapolis man hit a woman in the head with his hands and then struck her in the head with a gun during an early morning argument at an apartment, according to charges.
Jason Lavillie Thomas, 42, faces a charge of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.
According to the complaint, dispatch received a 911 call at about 3:18 a.m. on May 6, 2026, from a caller who was frantic and begging for help. The caller reported that a woman had been hit in the head and that the person who assaulted her had a gun. Officers arrived at a Minneapolis apartment and spoke to the victim, who was emotional and afraid.

The victim told officers they had been arguing when Thomas began hitting her in the head with his hands. After hitting her multiple times, Thomas left and then returned with a gun in his hand. The victim reported that Thomas then struck her in the head with the gun, causing a laceration on her forehead.
A witness woke up and came into the living room, where she saw Thomas assaulting the victim with a black 9 mm gun in his hand. The witness was scared and emotional and described the assault to officers. Thomas then grabbed the victim’s phone and threw it across the room.
Officers documented the scene and photographed the apartment, which was in disarray, and the victim’s injury, which was actively bleeding. The victim went to the emergency room, where she underwent a forensic nurse evaluation and described the assault to medical staff. She was treated for a head injury and laceration. The charge was filed Tuesday, September 22, in Hennepin County District Court.
About This Charge
Second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, under § 609.222, is a felony. The complaint lists a maximum sentence of seven years in prison, a fine of $4,200 to $14,000 or both. It also lists minimum sentences of three years and of one year and one day, citing § 609.11.
