Officers from the Fourth Precinct responded around 2:35 a.m. to the 2100 block of Dupont Avenue North on July 4 after a ShotSpotter activation and several 911 calls reported gunfire in the area. When officers arrived, they found the man critically injured with a gunshot wound. He was taken to North Memorial Health, where he later died.

Initial information suggests the man and another person were riding electric scooters when they heard gunfire. The victim collapsed, and his companion called 911.
